The Centre de Création O Vertigo (CCOV) is proud to announce the upcoming opening of a new creation space by repurposing the former live performance bar located at 900 Ontario Street. This iconic venue, well known within the arts community and housed in the same building as the CCOV and Circuit-Est spaces, will be renovated in the coming months to make it functional and inspiring for the dance sector.
This announcement comes after a significant period of transition for the organization. In 2023, following the non-renewal of its lease, the CCOV had to leave its technical studio—designed specifically for the needs of dance—which it had occupied for many years at Place des Arts. Despite this major loss for the dance community, the team managed to bounce back by securing another space, ensuring the continuity of its activities with artists.
This new space will strengthen CCOV’s central role within the cultural ecosystem by offering artists a work environment tailored to the current realities of creation and well-being. Through a unique combination of expertise, technical infrastructure, and personalized support, the CCOV is amplifying its impact and reinforcing its mission: to support the development, research, creation, and production of original choreographic works.
In the longer term, the centre will be fully redeveloped and equipped with state-of-the-art technical equipment. The venue will offer optimal creation conditions while allowing the CCOV to bring all its activities under one roof. This new space will host residencies, open labs, workshops, and projects supported as part of our programming. It will also serve as a space for dialogue and community engagement, in line with CCOV’s mission to make dance accessible to diverse audiences.
“This is excellent news for the dance community. At a time when spaces specifically designed for dance creation are increasingly rare, this initiative represents much more than just a roof—it’s about offering a place where artists can create, reflect, and come together. We are committed to developing an accessible centre that provides tangible and lasting support to the community. My goal is clear: to establish a creation centre that strengthens the vitality of the field and reaffirms CCOV’s commitment to the ongoing evolution of dance practices” says Paul Caskey, Executive Director of the CCOV.
The public, artists, and partners will be invited to discover this evolving space and contribute to its development, in a spirit of co-construction and collaborative engagement.
Since its founding, the CCOV has established itself as a key player in the choreographic landscape, offering a unique framework for research and innovation in dance. The opening of this new venue marks a turning point in its history.
