Estelle Clareton

Estelle Clareton – Créations Estelle Clareton | PAYSAGES DE PAPIERS (Working title)

Eager to continue the dialogue she started with young audiences with STRECHY, the choreographer Estelle Clareton goes in the studio in June 2018 to propose a new work dedicated to the youth and what concerns them. The choreographer, aware of discrimination in all its forms, wants to approach this subject in a fun and physical way, highlighting the difficulties we meet in the face of difference. In a time when it’s important to question our true capacity to live with each other through our differences (cultural, religious…), the theme will pick up the interest of youngsters who grow up in a multi-cultural landscape where opportunities to meet seem infinite. A woman and two men meet on a set and with costumes entirely made out of paper that will transform throughout the show to give place to scenes that are mostly danced, where they try to get to know each other despite their differences. The choreography will be inspired by the emotions that emanate from Chopin’s 24 preludes, to develop scenes which, when put end to end, will have told multiple stories that highlight the main theme of the show. It is a challenge that the choreographer proposes to meet, she who is mindful of the meaning that can emerge from dance, without it being constructed from a narrative first. The composer Eric Forget, will be inspired by the preludes to build a musical atmosphere. Some of the them will be preserved but the paper and the sound that comes out from its rustling, its tears, will also be of importance.

As a woman passionate with the body’s language and movements, Estelle Clareton has long performed pieces imagined by other choreographers before giving form to creations that reflect her vision of the world. As a choreographer in search of meaning, through virtuosity she attempts to push back the compartmentalization of disciplines, each of her pieces bearing the mark of other artistic practices.
