Mecdy Mystic Rootz

Mecdy Jean-Pierre, also known by his artist’s name “Mystic Rootz”, is a Montreal-born of Haitian descent performer, choreographer, judge, and teacher who has been active in the dance scene since 2005. He has
attained various accolades from the legendary elders of the street dance community worldwide, making him a carrier of this art form in
Montreal. Mystic Rootz started his journey in competitions and later explored different dance forms and disciplines like contemporary dance, sound healing, and sacred geometry.

He has represented Canada in street dance competitions globally,
showcasing his approach to movement on the international stage.
Mystic Rootz’s style incorporates voluntary movement that encourages
the re-appropriation of body rhythm through anchoring, breath, weight, and alignment. He has worked with several dance companies, including Cirque du Soleil, Blueprint Dance Company, Gad Fly, We All Fall Down,
Tentacle Tribe, and Zab Maboungou/Compagnie de danse Nyata Nyata. He has also appeared in dance films like “Sur le rythme”; “Step Up All” and “Full Out” In 2023, he won the Grand Prix de la danse, “Prix Interprète de la Danse de Montréal”.

An initiate and Reiki master, Mystic Rootz is also an exceptional mentor who organizes expressive dance workshops and events like “Soul Bangin” and “Rhythm & Danse”; He is the founder and artistic
director of “WEE-VERSE” a street dance collective rooted in body intelligence, movement reflection, and ancestral connection.

Currently, Mystic Rootz is pursuing his contemporary studies with the Nyata Nyata dance company and training center to better understand his body’s rhythms, nurture its relationship with time and space, and
pour his energy and soul into therapeutic dance forms expressing his philosophy of life through intelligent concepts.
