BIO PARTS+LABOUR_DANSE
Fondée en 2011 par les co-créateurs Emily Gualtieri et David Albert-Toth, la compagnie montréalaise Parts+Labour_Danse a pour mandat de créer des expériences physiquement engageantes. Leurs œuvres se préoccupent des questions d’identité et de moralité : comment nous définissons-nous en relation au monde qui nous entoure, en fonction, ou encore malgré celui-ci? Ce duo cherche constamment à plonger plus profondément dans la formulation, la création et la présentation d’œuvres chorégraphiques contemporaines. Un intérêt sous-jacent pour les états transformateurs et leurs effets sur le corps en mouvement est au cœur de leur travail, accompagné d’un désir de redéfinir les partenariats dans divers modes de création. Parts+Labour_Danse s’est produite à travers le Canada. Son répertoire inclut The Calculated Risk Project (2011), In Mixed Company (2013) (Gagnant du prix Coup de pouce, festival VSLR 2015), et le solo La chute (2013), interprété par Albert-Toth, qui a été sélectionné par Philip Szporer du Dance Current comme l’un des moments en danse les plus marquants de 2013 et gagnant du Prix du publique du festival Dance : Made in Canada en 2015. En 2016, le duo signe Broken Land, une commande de l’École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, et À bout de bras, un court solo présenté à Montréal et à Québec. La compagnie est actuellement en création de plusieurs nouvelles œuvres qui seront diffusées au cours de la prochaine année.
Since being founded in 2011 by co-creators Emily Gualtieri and David Albert-Toth, Montreal-based Parts+Labour_Danse has held the mandate to invest in creating physically engaging experiences. Their work is preoccupied by questions of identity and morality: how do we define ourselves in relation to, in spite of, or as a result of the world around us? The duo continuously seeks to dive deeper into the formulation, creation, and presentation of contemporary dance, bringing these questions into their creative process. An underlying interest in transformative states and their effect on the body in movement are presently at the core of their focus. This interest is complimented by a desire to redefine partnerships in different modes of creation. To date, the company has presented its work extensively throughout Canada. Its repertoire includes The Calculated Risk Project (2010), In Mixed Company (2013) (Coup de pouce prize winner, VSLR Festival 2015), La chute (2013), a solo performed by Albert-Toth noted as one of 2013’s top ten Canadian moments in dance by the Dance Current’s Philip Szporer and winner of the Audience Choice Award at Toronto’s Dance: Made In Canada Festival in 2015. In 2016, the duo signed Broken Land, a commission by the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, and À bout de bras, a short solo performed in Montreal and Quebec City. They are currently involved in several new creations that will premiere over the next year.
BIO DAVID ALBERT-TOTH + EMILY GUALTIERI
David Albert-Toth est danseur, chorégraphe, compositeur, et co-directeur artistique de Parts+Labour_Danse. Une disposition envers les collaborations artistiques éclectiques l’amène à performer à travers l’Amérique du Nord et l’Europe ; il collabore avec Frédérick Gravel, Human Playground, Lemieux-Pilon 4D-Art et Peter Trosztmer, Emmanuelle Calvé, Floor Rider & Tonik Danse, et Destins Croisés. Il contribue à des projets pluridisciplinaires avec Thibaut Duverneix, Dominique Porte, Julie Favreau, et Moment Factory, et on l’invite à enseigner au Canada, au Mexique, et en France. Suite à plusieurs créations indépendantes, il s’engage à un partenariat avec Emily Gualtieri, avec qui il fond Parts+Labour_Danse en 2011. Leurs œuvres In Mixed Company (2013) et La chute (2013) ont remporté plusieurs prix, ce dernier ayant été présenté à travers le Canada, nommé l’un des dix moments les plus marquants en danse en 2013. En 2015, David a été l’un de cinq chorégraphes internationales invités à participer à un atelier de création mené par Crystal Pite et Éric Beauchesne au Centre Banff. Parts+Labour_Danse est actuellement sur plusieurs nouvelles créations qui seront diffusées prochainement. David est membre du Conseil d’administration du Regroupement Québécois de la danse depuis 2015.
David Albert-Toth is a dancer, choreographer, composer, and co-artistic director of Parts+Labour_Danse. A disposition towards eclectic artistic encounters has led David to perform throughout North America and Europe. Notable collaborations include work with Frédérick Gravel, Human Playground, Lemieux.Pilon 4D-Art and Peter Trosztmer, Emmanuelle Calvé, Floor Rider & Tonik Danse, and Compagnie Destins Croisés. He has contributed to interdisciplinary works by Thibaut Duverneix, Dominique Porte, Julie Favreau, and Moment Factory, and has been invited to teach in Canada, Mexico, and France. Following a string of independent choreographies, he began a choreographic partnership with Emily Gualtieri, founding Parts+Labour_Danse in 2011. Their 2013 works In Mixed Company and La chute have since won awards, the latter having toured nationally, named one of the ten outstanding moments in dance of 2013. In 2015, David was one of five internationally selected choreographers to participate in a creation workshop by Crystal Pite and Eric Beauchesne at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Parts+Labour_Danse is currently involved in several new creations that will premiere in the near future. David has been a member of the board of directors of the Regroupement Québécois de la danse since 2015.

Emily Gualtieri est chorégraphe et artiste en danse œuvrant à Montréal et à Toronto. Un intérêt marqué à la création la pousse à présenter de nouvelles œuvres à chaque saison depuis 2007. Après plusieurs années de création indépendante, elle s’engage à un partenariat avec David Albert-Toth, avec qui elle fond Parts+Labour_Danse en 2011. Leurs œuvres ont été présenté à travers le Canada dans des festivals tels que Dance: Made in Canada, Guelph Dance, Expanse Festival, Quartiers Danses, POP Montreal, VSLR, Dance Matters, and St. John Contemporary Dance Festival. Depuis 2011, Emily a participé et a dirigé des résidences artistiques à Montréal, Toronto, Banff, Halifax, Massachusetts, et à Berlin. Emily signe également À la prochaine (2013), une commande de Older & Reckless interprété par Ginelle Chagnon, Re:Pairing (2015), une production Danceworks CoWorks pour laquelle elle a été nominée pour un prix Dora, et Stealing Fire (2016) une commande de Mocean Dance. Emily est actuellement en création avec Parts+Labour_Danse sur plusieurs nouvelles œuvres qui seront diffusées en 2017.
Emily Gualtieri is a choreographer and dance artist working in both Montreal and Toronto. Since 2007, her interest in creation and craft has driven her to continually produce and tour new works every season. After several years spent choreographing independently, Emily began a creative partnership with David Albert-Toth, founding Parts+Labour_Danse in 2011. Their 2013 works In Mixed Company and La chute have won various awards, the latter having been hailed by Philip Szporer as one of the year’s ten outstanding moments in dance. Emily and David’s works have been presented nationally in festivals such as Dance: Made in Canada, Guelph Dance, Expanse Festival, Quartiers Danses, POP Montreal, VSLR, Dance Matters, and St. John Contemporary Dance Festival. Emily has participated in and led artist residencies in Montreal, Toronto, Banff, Halifax, Massachusetts, and Berlin. Emily created À la prochaine (2013), performed by Ginelle Chagnon and commissioned by Older & Reckless, Re:Pairing (2015), a DanceWorks CoWorks production for which she was nominated for a Dora Award for outstanding choreography, and Stealing Fire (2016) a commission for Mocean Dance. Emily is currently working on a new creation for Parts+Labour_Danse, which is set to premiere in autumn 2017.
