Performing Performance
Performing Performance is interested in the performing of ‘self’ and the role of the <performer> in this moment of saturation where attention itself performs and is performed upon constantly. Theatre or no theater, and body or no body. With a shifty and volatile presence, attending to forces, historical and imminent, misinterpreted or channeled direct, this work looks to create a crack; a bit of light, accelerating to stop. Stoop.

BIO ELLEN FUREY (FR)
Artiste pluridisciplinaire, Ellen Furey travaille à Toronto et à Montréal. Elle participe actuellement aux processus de création des nouveaux projets de Daniel Léveillé Danse (Solitudes Duos) à Montréal ainsi que de Dana Michel et Zoja Smutny avec la compagnie Dancemakers à Toronto. Au fil de sa carrière, elle collabore extensivement avec Michael Trent, Susanna Hood, Simon Portigal, Benjamin Kamino, Amanda Acorn, Robert Abubo et Christopher Willes. Elle fut également interprète pour Nicolas Cantin, Montréal Danse, Adam Kinner Stéphane Gladyszewski, Paula de Vasconcelos et Marten Spangberg.
Ellen s’intéresse particulièrement au discours critique. Elle emploie son sens critique à tous les projets auxquels elle participe pour essayer de se positionner par rapport au (et mieux comprendre) la machine de l’art contemporain. Ses propres créations ont été présentées à Toronto et à Montréal. En 2014, elle a fait partie de DanceWeb à Vienne dans le cadre du festival international de danse ImPulsTanz.
BIO ELLEN FUREY (ENG)
Ellen Furey is a choreographer based in Montréal. Her most recent solo work, Performing Performance, has been presented in NYC, Montreal, Toronto, and Halifax, and will be presented as a part of Hatch 13 at Harbourfront Center, Toronto in Fall 2017. Currently she is working on a new co-creation with choreographer Malik Nashad Sharpe (USA/UK), which will premiere at Theatre La Chapelle (Montreal) and Hackney Showroom (London, UK) in Spring 2018.
As a dancer she has appeared in works by Daniel Léveillé Danse, Fréd Gravel, Marten Spangberg, Dana Gingras, and she regularly collaborates with independant artists including Dana Michel, Andrew Tay, Christopher Willes, Amanda Acorn, Simon Portigal, and many others. She was a company member at Dancemakers (Michael Trent, Benjamin Kamino, Emi Forster, Amelia Ehrhardt) in Toronto from 2012-15, and was a DanceWeb scholar at Impulstanz Festival, Vienna in 2014.
