LE SWITCH 2022

The CCOV and ANNEXE A are pleased to collaborate on a residency project between the two centres. The Switch is an interurban project that offers an artist based in Rouyn-Noranda, a one-week residency in Montréal and a Montréal artist a residency of the same period in Rouyn-Noranda. The objective of this initiative is to create stronger links between two dance communities, and to give the opportunity to artists who do not yet have networks in the city. This program also aims to strengthen artistic collaborations between these two dance centres.

Stacey Désilier from Montréal in residence at Rouyn-Noranda from September 12 – 18

A graduate of the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal in 2014, Stacey Désilier is a performer with great intensity.  Her artistic curiosity leads him to multiply projects in different disciplines, contemporary dance, urban dances and circus. Her collaborations include works by Mélanie Demers/Mayday, Dana Gingras/Animals of Distinction, Helen Simard, Marie Claire Forté, George Stamos, Isabelle Boulanger/La grande cleft, Tentacle Tribe, Benoît Landry/Nord est, Dave St -Pierre, Cirque Éloize and Opéra Starmania. She believes in the meeting of cultures through dance and nurtures the desire to continue sharing artistic experience in Haiti, land of her roots.

In Annexe-A, Stacey will continue her Braids and Heritage project that she started in 2020 after taking a DNA test. In collaboration with Jossua Collin, she will read, braid, twist and deepen her knowledge of her ancestors. Nanne Springer will document the residency on 35mm film.

Marie-Helene Massy Emond from December 12 – 16 in Montreal at the CCOV

It is through extended playing techniques and fieldrecording that singer-songwriter Massy Emond develops her sound works. An ecofeminist established in Abitibi, she is interested in themes of compromise and isolation in relation to the territory. She creates albums, sound installations and associates herself with various theatre artists in Canada and Italy in the
context of works inviting the relational in art. With Emily Marie Seguin, she composed and performs the work G’zaagiin – je te promets une forêt, directed by Milena Buziak and produced by Voyageurs Immobiles, compagnie de création. She has been a member of the Wundertruppe collective since the creation of the wandering theatrical work Piazza della Solitudine in 2019.

Project description

Onde – Le Switch 2022 Residency
Massy Emond and her colleague Natalie Norma Fella from the Wundertruppe collective will work on the technical and dramaturgical research of the sound device of the upcoming performance as a first step in this new project of ambulatory and relational theatre based on the theme of friendship.

The Onde project
Through the point of view of a group of friends, an existence is traced from childhood to the last breath. The story of a life is populated by the people one has grown up with, chosen, left, accompanied. The story of a life is interwoven with that of a whole group; its memories, its dramas, its dreams.

Accompanied by the novel The Waves by Virginia Woolf, a stream of the consciousness of six friends who together recall the passage of time and the memories that surface, the core of our research develops from meetings and interviews with different groups of friends of various ages who have come together around different motivations: neighbourhood, training, passion, profession, art, activism.

Created by four women artists, Natalie Norma Fella, actress and director, Giulia Tollis, playwright, Milena Buziak, director and Marie-Hélène Massy Emond, singer-songwriter, this work is the first co-production for the Italian based collective Wundertruppe and the Québec-based creative company Voyageurs Immobiles.
